The Future is Coming

So you might as well embrace it. I know we don’t like to think about it, but someday gasoline and coal will be replaced, and with them the internal combustion engine and electric powered vehicles. Hydrogen powered vehicles like the Honda Clarity are ready for that future but there is a big obstacle in the way, no infrastructure of filling stations. The solution is the Honda Solar Hydrogen Station, and I like it. It’s a self contained unit that installs at your house and using solar power produces enough hydrogen in a day to cover your daily commute. What I like; no more trips to the gas station and self reliance. What I don’t like; it will probably cost a fortune at first and if you live in an apartment and have no place to put it you’re screwed. But, it is a big step in overcoming the infrastructure problem.

Ran across a site I hadn’t heard of before today, it’s probably old news to most of you but that’s price I pay for not being as cool as everyone else. Top One Aero looks like they make some nice canards, splitters, and winglets that are very affordable. It sounds like they are a young start up company and you all know how important it is these days to support the small mom and pop operations, plus they cater exclusively to Hondas. One thing I was really excited to see was thier range of beauty washer/allen head sets, 30 sets for only $40, Password is getting something like $20 for a set of 4 I think. If I’m still employed in the spring I’ll be getting a set to play with.

Carnage

The Russo and Steele Auction is similar to but smaller than Barrett-Jackson. Much like BJ, it draws big money, rare, and exceptionally nice cars, takes place in Arizona, and there are tents involved. Unlike BJ, when the weather in Scottsdale flared up and some violent storms ripped through the area over the weekend the tents where the cars were held came crashing down. Initial estimates are 300 cars damaged at a cost of 1.5 – 2 million dollars.

Couple trends I’m on the fence about. I love seeing people try different things more than anybody, these are kind of interesting and I think need to be judged on a car by car basis rather thatn just by the style as a whole. First up is Dayton style wires on euros. I’m kind of tainted on this one, for me wires belong on Jaguar E Types and lowriders, but I can see how and why the europeans view them differently.

Next is stickered body panels, this one really depends on the car so much. I’ve seen it on some Hondas and it really just didn’t appeal to me at all, but on this xB and the IS300 in particular, I think they wear it quite well.
