I stopped by autoblog.nl today, I can’t read it, I’m not even sure what language it’s in, but you don’t read Playboy for the articles either. Anyway here’s what I saw them reporting on:
From Japan the Civic Type R, I’ll spare you my usual rant about how it should be sold in the US
From England the Aston Martin One-77
From Germany the Porsche 997 Turbo Techart GT Street
From Italy this sinister Enzo
and from America, a fucking Donk. Jesus Christ, this is our contribution to motoring as seen from the international press
It’s disgusting but the more I think about it, it’s accurate. What is a purely american tuning style? The Honda crowd is all about the JDM, the VW and BWM folks draw heavily from the smooth euro style, the FR Nissan peeps are influenced by the japanese drift machines, VIP is starting to become common in the states but once again it all started in Japan. What has america seriously come up with on it’s own? Muscle cars for one, but the last one rolled off the assembly line around 1974. Lowriders are an american tradition I suppose, but you’d never see one near a race track. SUVs with spinners…yep. Donks? Oh yea that’s ours, we own that one, makes you feel all warm and fuzzy inside doesn’t it? America is just the Rota of the world.
